Serenity

Sat Oct 8, 2005, 11:17 AM
Serenity is my new favorite movie. Good lord, it's EXCELLENT. It was like reading a good book - you really got into it, and actually cared for the characters, unlike MANY *cough* excuse me, nearly ALL of today's movies. The CG was also very good, but it wasn't a primary factor in the movie, like many other 'space' movies - it focused more on what was going on inside the ship rather than the battle raging outside, or the hectic landing, or whatever was going on. It was clearly lower budget than Star Wars, but hey - Star Wars had Hayden Christensen in it, so it evens out - perhaps more than even...

Hehe. "I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar."

This movie had a very...Irish influence (I think - I'm lousy at picking Irish and Scottish apart from each other.. >_> ) which was cool. The dialogue was continuously really good, and WASN'T ridden with cliché lines (AT LAST!). Story was great, and was believable. It wasn't "OMG the trade federation is attacking!" once again, and it wasn't bland - it seems that many movies put themselves under the genre of 'Sci-fi', but many of those are simply 'gun fights in the future', not true Sci-Fi. This was actually Sci-Fi, and I loved it. For those of you who HAVEN'T seen this great movie yet, go see it!

Also, the first 9 minutes of Serenity is available online as a promo. You can watch that from here:

Other than that, school is eating me alive. I'll make it through okay, but it's still rough. Thank goodness that we got this friday off - I spent the whole day slacking off and working on graphics for a game called Vendetta Online [link] which I may be getting some of my art into in the near future. We'll see...

Well that's good. I hope you're enjoying some peace and quiet while Jesse & Co are off vacationing. :)

And yes, there are hordes of Emoticons. I don't even bother any more. I just guess, and if what I guessed is one, that's cool, and if it's not, "oh well." :)

Wonderin if you could answer a question for me.
I recently got Terragen and was wondering how you got the grass and plants onto ur land? I can only get moon looking rock. Could use any info ya can give.
Thanks

Vas.
:iconbletherskit:
Sure.

Go to the Landscape window in terragen, and down near the bottom is the different texture fields. Double clicking will bring up the edit menu, and the "advanced distribution" tab inside that allows you to customize coverage. Adding siblings or child textures further allows you to control what texture & color shows up where, but it's not exactly a science.

Children textures will only affect where the parent already is, and gives variation to that color and texture, and siblings compete for space on the land based on what coverage you gave them.

Cheers.
